Events are largely seen through the eyes of a christian arab girl who marries a famous muslim rebel in the anti-british revolt of the 1930s. (20/4/88). 2/3/88--1500x246px$11.95(2000x204p). After her husband dies in the sabra refugee camp near beirut, israeli soldiers search the village with the same kind of brutality displayed by british soldiers half a century earlier. The story, which is largely autobiographical, weaves backwards and forwards through time but returns always to the tiny north galilean village of fasuta, hard by the lebanese border. UK YES. 'arabesques' though it could by no means be described as political in the narrowest sense, succeeds in conveying something of the inner reality of the palestinian experience. Yet the novel is not written in an entirely realistic mode: its interplay of myth and realism has led many critics and readers to compare shammas with marquez. 216x135mm.272pp.offsetlay 4/89
Jankiewicz has followed up his first book Just When You Thought It Was Safe: A JAWS Companion with an amazing and intricate historical look at the fan favorite television series, "The Incredible Hulk" with You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry! (A Hulk Companion.) Published by BearManor Media, the book takes its title from the famous line quoted in the first episode, which has become ingrained in the American lexicon. Excellent. With chapters devoted to the films made of this event and of the Medal of Honor (first awarded to the raid participants), this book is guaranteed to provide many hours of fascinating reading for not only the railfan or modeler but also the Civil War historian.. And a huge bonus - Andrews is fun to read, displaying an extraordinarily adept mind; his questions and examples rarely failing to not only make his point, but develop it. Having showered the author with praise I must point out one caveat: unlike Kenneth Clarke, who invariably seemed to put his figure on the one painting defining an age or movement, Andrews sometimes misses the obvious. That is onePW said, "The multilayered pyrotechnics are dazzling and sophisticated but may render this work impenetrable for many American readers." Copyright 1989 Reed Business Information, Inc. .
